East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy
East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy (EPAPA) is Lime Design's home away from home. With a staff of inspiring educators and wonderful students, it has become an innovative hub for design thinking. Lime Design worked with students and teachers on their end-of-year Exhibitions --a month-long immersive learning experience. Students designed instruments as they learned about the physics of sound. They built media literacy projects as they explored how to catalyze change in the local community.
One of the most impactful Exhibitions projects focused on the development of metacognitive skills and a growth mindset.
“Challenging students to explore their own thinking and the thinking of others -- work that was inspired and supported by Lime Design -- has done more to shape me as an educator (and a person) than anything else I've experienced in my professional career. Through our work with Maureen and Leticia, I have realized the vision that will guide me as an educator: we must equip ourselves and our students with a growth mindset. I believe that Lime Design is developing the tools to help us realize that vision.”
- Mike Berman, Director of Development & Community Partnerships
In the 2010-11 school year, Lime Design taught an after-school Design Thinking Studio, and continues to collaborate closely with the amazing school leadership and teaching team.
